Once at the heart of industrial Salford, the docks
and the ship canal fell victim to economic changes
|
which led to a decline in use and the eventual
closure of Salford Docks.

Where, fifty years ago, ocean going ships
discharged their cargos from around the world,
houses, restaurants, office blocks, cinemas,
theatres, museums and art galleries now stand.

This picture was taken from The Lowry which is
located on what was known as Pier 8. The stretch
|
of water is what remains of number 9 dock and
|
the red bridge in the backgound is the railway
|
swing bridge which has been relocated from its
original position which was on the Eccles side of the
Trafford Road swing bridge.
